MoU Signed for RO 8.3 Million Shrimp Farm: What This Means for Investors and Entrepreneurs in Oman’s Aquaculture Sector

MUSCAT, OCTOBER 23 — The Al Sharqiyah South Governorate is set to host one of Oman’s largest shrimp farms following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 22, 2025. The agreement was made between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR) and Sea Pride LLC, a prominent local company in Oman’s fisheries sector.

The project, valued at RO 8.3 million, will develop a 100-hectare, cutting-edge Semi-Recirculating Aquaculture System (Semi-RAS) shrimp farm in Awrab, Jalan Bani Bu Ali. Utilizing circular tank technology and an advanced high-density system, the facility aims to cultivate Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) with an annual production target of 3,200 metric tonnes of export-quality shrimp.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Saud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Mohamed Ameen Sait, CEO of Sea Pride LLC.

Founded in 1996, Sea Pride LLC has grown steadily, expanding across multiple governorates and diversifying into various fish and seafood products over the past twenty years. Mohamed Ameen Sait described the new shrimp farm as “a major step in integrating our seafood supply chain from farm to factory,” emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainability, quality production, and fostering local economic development through employment opportunities and technology transfer.

This shrimp farming initiative will complement Sea Pride’s upcoming 11,500-square-meter seafood processing facility in the Duqm Special Economic Zone. Operated by its subsidiary, Sea Pride Integrated Fisheries Company (SIFCO), the plant will feature advanced technologies such as Blast, IQF, Spiral, and Brine Freezing, alongside automated shrimp peeling and cooking lines and a dedicated tuna-canning unit. Operations are scheduled to commence in January 2026.
