Starting Your E-Commerce Store in Oman: Key Steps for Business Success and Growth Opportunities
Muscat: Oman is advancing its support for entrepreneurs by simplifying the process to launch e-commerce businesses. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) is urging all online sellers to secure official e-commerce licences and verify their stores through the national platform, Maroof Oman.
The ministry’s latest awareness campaign highlights this initiative, designed to distinguish authentic businesses from fraudulent social media accounts and ensure all online sellers comply with legal standards. This effort aims to build trust between consumers and businesses, increase market transparency, and strengthen confidence in Oman’s expanding digital economy.
MoCIIP revealed that obtaining an e-commerce licence is now fully digital via the Oman Business Platform. Prospective sellers can simply log in, select e-commerce as their business activity, complete the necessary information, and submit their application. Licences are issued automatically upon approval.
Verification through the Maroof Oman website (maroof.om) enhances business credibility, giving buyers the assurance that they are dealing with legitimate, regulation-compliant vendors.
Government data indicates a continuous growth in digital entrepreneurship, fueled by expanded payment gateways, improved logistics, and growing consumer demand for online shopping. Authorities have also warned that unlicensed e-commerce activities are subject to penalties under Oman’s commercial laws.

Oman’s streamlined e-commerce licensing and mandatory verification via the Maroof Oman platform create significant opportunities for genuine entrepreneurs to build trust and scale in the growing digital economy.
