Muscat – Thawani has become the first Omani fintech company to receive an official licence from Visa International to issue credit cards.
This licence enables Thawani to launch Visa-backed credit cards featuring in-app onboarding and management through the Thawani app. The cards will be accepted globally for both point-of-sale and e-commerce transactions and will incorporate advanced encryption, smart authentication, and tailored offers for consumers and businesses in the market.
A formal agreement-signing ceremony held in Muscat brought together senior executives from Visa and Thawani, alongside key figures from the banking and finance sectors, highlighting the fintech industry’s vital role in driving innovation and enhancing financial inclusion.
Founder and CEO Eng. Majid Al Amri described the Visa licence as a crucial milestone for Thawani and the broader Omani fintech ecosystem. Nasser Bdeir, Visa’s General Manager for Oman, called the development a significant advancement for the Sultanate’s fintech landscape.
