Iran Confirms Readiness to Return to Nuclear Negotiations: Implications for Investors and Businesses in Oman

Tehran, July 12 — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced the country’s readiness to engage in dialogue regarding its nuclear program. He emphasized that it is important to ensure that the resumption of negotiations does not lead to war again.

During a meeting with ambassadors, chargé d’affaires, and heads of foreign and international missions in Tehran, Araqchi stated that Iran remains prepared for future negotiations, but the discussions must not escalate into conflict.

He pointed out that for over twenty years, Iran has been making efforts to demonstrate the peaceful nature of its nuclear program to concerned nations. Iran has pursued all avenues to prove that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

Araqchi explained that attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities have made it more challenging and complicated to reach a negotiation-based solution. He reiterated that recent attacks and the ensuing war have shown that there is no military solution to this issue, and Iran’s nuclear program cannot be eliminated through bombing or military action.

He affirmed that there is still potential for reaching diplomatic solutions to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, much like past negotiations which yielded results. In 2015, an agreement was reached between Iran and the P5+1 countries, where the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China), along with Germany, concluded that Iran’s nuclear program was peaceful and would remain so.

Araqchi stressed that Iran will not accept any agreement that does not recognize its right to enrich uranium, as enrichment is a significant scientific achievement resulting from the efforts of Iranian scientists.

He noted that if future discussions take place, they will focus solely on Iran’s nuclear program, specifically regarding assurances about its peaceful nature in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. No other topics will be included on the agenda of the negotiations.
