SALALAH: Artificial intelligence has transitioned from a futuristic concept to a transformative force reshaping organizational operations, affirmed Abdulrahman Abdullah Al Busaidi, Director of Smart Management at the Ministry of Labour. During a recent session, Al Busaidi highlighted how the evolution from traditional management practices to AI-driven systems is facilitating faster decision-making, enhanced agility, and a stronger competitive advantage.

Al Busaidi detailed three primary management approaches: traditional, digital, and AI-powered smart management. Traditional management relies heavily on manual, repetitive tasks and slower decision processes. Digital management introduces automation and electronic systems to boost efficiency. Smart management further advances these approaches by utilizing predictive analytics, automated recommendations, and real-time data to provide leaders with immediate insights and enable decisive action.

A key feature of his presentation was the Ministry of Labour’s pioneering AI initiative, “Nadeem” — the first AI-powered virtual career advisor developed in Oman. Built using generative AI technologies, Nadeem assists job seekers through personalized guidance, helping them navigate challenges and offering tailored solutions throughout their employment journey.

As part of the Ministry’s Smart Management Project, Nadeem has proven invaluable in capturing the needs, expectations, and concerns of employees and job seekers alike. “It’s a treasure trove of information,” Al Busaidi remarked, emphasizing how the tool supports the Ministry in customizing programs to enhance workplace performance and improve job matching.

Al Busaidi also underscored that transitioning to smart management requires careful consideration of interconnected factors, particularly at the national level. “Cybersecurity is fundamental because national data is sovereign, and protecting it is essential,” he stated. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of risk management, with prepared scenarios and well-planned responses ensuring resilience against emerging threats.

Concluding his remarks, Al Busaidi stressed that adopting AI-powered management involves more than technological investment; it demands fostering an organizational culture that embraces innovation. “This is no longer optional,” he asserted. “It’s a strategic necessity to keep pace with the rapid changes shaping today’s global business environment.”
