London, July 9 — Serbian player Novak Djokovic, currently ranked sixth in the world, has advanced to the semifinals of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, after defeating Italian Flavio Cobolli today.

Djokovic needed three hours and 11 minutes to secure his victory, coming back from a 6-7 (6-8) loss in the first set to win three consecutive sets with scores of 6-2, 7-5, and 6-4.

The 38-year-old veteran has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon for the 14th time, setting a record as he aims to win this title for the eighth time.

He is set to face fellow Italian Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked player, who also advanced after defeating American Ben Shelton earlier today.

In the second semifinal, Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning champion for the past two years, will compete against American Taylor Fritz.

In women’s competition, Polish player Iga Swiatek, ranked eighth in the world, has reached the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in her professional career. She achieved this milestone by defeating Russian Lyudmila Samsonova, ranked 19th, in straight sets.

Swiatek encountered few difficulties in her match, winning 6-2 and 7-5.

This victory marks her third semifinal appearance in Grand Slam tournaments this season, having previously reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, US Open, and Roland Garros.

The win is Swiatek’s fifth against Samsonova in their five encounters.

In the semifinals, Swiatek will face Swiss player Belinda Bencic, ranked 35th and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, who defeated Russian Mira Andreeva, the seventh seed, in straight sets.

This will be their fifth meeting, with Swiatek holding a 3-1 edge, the most recent victory being in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon 2023, while her only loss came in the Round of 16 at the 2021 US Open.
