Porto Appoints New Coach: How This Leadership Change Could Impact Investor Confidence and Team Performance

Lisbon, July 6 — FC Porto has announced the appointment of Francesco Farioli as the new head coach for the first team on a two-year contract.

Farioli, the former coach of Ajax Amsterdam and OGC Nice, left the Dutch team in May after missing the chance to win the league title for the 37th time. The team struggled at the end of the season, allowing PSV Eindhoven to clinch the title on the final matchday.

In the 2023-2024 season, Farioli led OGC Nice to a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1. He has also previously managed Fatih Karagümrük and Alanyaspor in Turkey. He replaces Martin Anselmi, who departed from Porto earlier this month after the team was eliminated in the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Last season, Porto finished third in the Primeira Liga, nine points behind the champions, Sporting Lisbon.
