Royal Oman Police Unveils Eco-Friendly Vehicle Plates: What It Means for Sustainable Business Practices in Oman

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has officially unveiled new license plates specifically designed for electric vehicles, aligning with the Sultanate’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

This initiative will take effect on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, and aims to encourage the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) throughout Oman by providing unique visual identifiers for these eco-friendly transport options.

Under the new system, private electric vehicles will display yellow plates with black text, clearly marked with an EV symbol and the word "Oman" in Arabic. In contrast, commercial, taxi, and rental electric vehicles will utilize red plates with white text, also featuring the EV symbol to indicate their environmentally friendly status. For electric vehicles not permitted on public roads—such as those operating on private or industrial premises—the plates will be black with white text, distinguishing them from those authorized for road use.

The ROP encourages vehicle owners and industry stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the new plate designs as the regulation approaches its implementation date.
