ROP Issues Warning on Fake Chalet and Farm Rental Ads: Safeguarding Your Investment in Oman’s Growing Tourism Sector
Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a warning to the public regarding fraudulent advertisements promoting fake farms and chalets on social media platforms.
In an official statement, the ROP highlighted an increase in scams involving deceptive ads that falsely claim to offer bookings at well-known farms, chalets, and tourist resorts across various governorates. These advertisements often include counterfeit contact information and misleading images to entice individuals into transferring money for non-existent reservations.
According to the ROP, perpetrators utilize social media to share convincing visuals and false details, subsequently requesting payments via bank transfers or mobile applications. Once the funds are sent, these fraudsters vanish, leaving victims without any confirmation or reservation.
The ROP strongly encourages both citizens and residents to exercise caution and to refrain from making any payments before verifying the recipient’s identity and the legitimacy of the establishment.
