ROP Launches 2025 Security Research Competition: Key Opportunities for Investors and Entrepreneurs in Oman
MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has officially announced the commencement of the 2025 Security Research Competition, emphasizing its dedication to enhancing scientific research in the security sector and fostering community involvement.
This competition invites researchers to contribute studies focused on the theme, “Security and Sustainable Development in Light of Oman Vision 2040.” It serves as a platform for showcasing innovative ideas that align with the nation’s development priorities.
The initiative aims to advance applied security research by implementing the findings of the selected projects while ensuring a transparent evaluation process grounded in rigorous scientific standards. Additionally, it strives to strengthen collaboration between law enforcement agencies and civil society to promote sustainable security and comprehensive development.
Lieutenant Colonel Khalifa bin Said al Amiri, Director of the Research and Studies Centre at the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences, emphasized that the competition mirrors the directives of His Majesty, who has prioritized scientific research and innovation as key components of Oman’s ongoing renaissance.
He pointed out that the competition is congruent with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which identifies research as a crucial catalyst for a knowledge-based economy. “This initiative aims to utilize scientific research to support the security system and devise innovative solutions to contemporary challenges, thereby ensuring the sustainability of security and safety,” he stated.
Al Amiri mentioned that the future of security in Oman is shifting toward proactive strategies that integrate modern technologies, including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, while addressing transnational crime. He also highlighted the importance of research in augmenting security awareness, particularly in tackling emerging issues such as cybercrime, and in enhancing the efficiency of police services for citizens and residents.
Key themes for submissions include comprehensive security and sustainable development; national security and its influence on development; and the role of citizens in fostering security and sustainability.
Participation is open to Omani citizens and legal entities, including universities, colleges, and research centers located within Oman.
Entries will be evaluated through a blind review process to maintain impartiality. The assessment will not only focus on the research content but will also take into account methodological rigor, analytical depth, and practical relevance. The judging panel will consist of esteemed academics from Omani universities, working in conjunction with experts from the Royal Oman Police, ensuring a balanced evaluation that merges theoretical insight with practical application.
