Tragic Incident in Al Suwaiq: Two Lives Lost Due to Contaminated Water

Al Suwaiq, Oman – A recent incident in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq has resulted in the unfortunate deaths of an Omani man and an expatriate woman, following the consumption of contaminated water. Another Omani woman has since recovered.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) reported that their North Al Batinah Governorate command responded to this water-poisoning case involving an Omani family. After consuming the contaminated water, two individuals fell critically ill.

In collaboration with relevant authorities, the ROP took immediate action by collecting water samples for testing. Laboratory results confirmed that the water was indeed contaminated.

In response to the incident, authorities have recalled water bottles of the Iranian brand Uranus from local markets. As a precautionary measure to safeguard public health, the import of all bottled water from Iran has been suspended until investigations are concluded.

The ROP urges all citizens and residents to refrain from using this brand of bottled water and to report any concerns immediately.

Additionally, the Food Safety and Quality Centre has issued a consumer alert, advising the disposal of Uranus Star drinking water products due to contamination with harmful substances. Steps are being taken to ensure a complete withdrawal of this brand from the local market and to prevent its entry through border crossings.
