Khareef Dhofar Season Transformed: What the New Integrated Destination Means for Investors and Businesses in Oman

SALALAH: Key Role of Tourism and Entertainment Projects in the Khareef Dhofar Season

Tourism and entertainment projects play a crucial role in supporting the Khareef Dhofar Season, also known as the monsoon season. These projects offer comprehensive destinations that cater to visitor needs, stimulate economic and commercial activities, and open up significant opportunities for investment and the engagement of national talent.

Such destinations are especially vital during the Khareef Dhofar Season, attracting visitors from both within Oman and abroad. They provide a blend of cultural, recreational, and commercial experiences while promoting entrepreneurship and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), thereby positively impacting the local economy and ensuring the sustainability of tourism in the region.

One notable venue for the 2025 Khareef Dhofar Season is Samharam Resort. It offers integrated facilities that combine shopping, dining, cultural, and recreational activities, appealing to visitors of all ages.

Mohammed bin Ahmed al Hadri, site supervisor at Samharam Resort, highlighted that the resort is currently hosting a consumer exhibition organised by Al Awail Company for the Management and Organisation of International Exhibitions and Festivals. The exhibition features between 150 to 160 shops representing various Arab and international countries, with diverse pavilions designed to meet visitor demands. The handicrafts section includes around 28 shops dedicated to SMEs and low-income individuals, under the supervision of the SME Development Authority (Riyada).

He further explained that the outdoor area hosts a variety of restaurants, cafés, and games catering to both children and adults. Additionally, a stage hosts children’s competitions and artistic performances. The popular "Rifle" section features numerous cafés, many managed by Omani youth, drawing large visitor crowds.

Musallam bin Abdulsalam Al Rawas, owner of Sar Events Company, noted that the "Rifle" event is being held at the resort for the first time this year, making it the event’s third consecutive year during the Khareef Dhofar Season. The event includes a wide array of restaurants, family and youth entertainment zones, and a stage featuring performances by Omani and Gulf artists, alongside talented performers from Oman and other GCC countries.

He added that the event offers various competitions for all age groups and provides employment opportunities for young Omanis, including job seekers and freelancers. This year, over 45 young people have been employed, reflecting strong public turnout and confirming the event’s success as a key recreational destination during the Khareef season.

Visitors have expressed positive impressions of Samharam Resort. Sufyan bin Ghassan al Rashdi from Al Dakhiliyah Governorate described it as an outstanding tourist destination for families, praised its variety of modern facilities and events, and recommended expanding public amenities to accommodate increasing visitor numbers.

Ahmed bin Ali al Saadi from Musandam Governorate shared that his recent visit to the Khareef Dhofar Season revealed significant advancements in tourist and recreational offerings, with a diverse program and comprehensive services that enhance the overall tourist experience.

Mohammad al Sai’ari, a tourist from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, remarked that the events and activities at Samharam Resort represent a unique blend of entertainment and education. He praised the consumer exhibition for featuring a range of local products such as incense and perfumes, highlighting the organised and attractive shopping environment that enhances visitors’ enjoyment.

The Khareef Dhofar Season continues to thrive as a vibrant and multifaceted tourist attraction, bolstered by destinations like Samharam Resort that enrich the cultural and economic landscape of the region.
