Muttrah Cable Car Project Review: Key Developments and Business Opportunities in Muscat’s Tourism Sector

The Muscat Governorate Development and Enhancement Committee recently conducted an on-site visit to the Muttrah Cable Car project to assess the progress and ongoing developments.

The Muttrah Cable Car is a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing the tourist experience in the capital city. Muttrah, known for its unique viewpoints and historic landmarks, will be transformed into a dynamic destination where visitors can enjoy a scenic cable car ride while overlooking the historic city from above.

The cable car system will feature three stations: the first located near the port and fish market; the second at the mountain summit behind Al Riyam Park, providing breathtaking 360-degree views of the coastline; and the third at Hay al Ward, also known as the Flower Park. Surrounding these stations will be a variety of amenities, including internationally recognized brand outlets, restaurants, family attractions, and dedicated spaces for small and medium-sized enterprises. Notably, the mountain top station will host an orchid center and a children’s roller coaster.

Designed and manufactured by Bartholet Maschinenbau of Switzerland, a global leader in ropeway systems, the cable car cabins were styled by Porsche Studio. The service will operate a fleet of 18 cabins, including two exclusive VIP cabins, covering routes connecting the Port, Mountain, and Flower Park stations.

This ambitious project promises to become a significant attraction, combining modern infrastructure with the rich cultural heritage of Muttrah.
