Bids Invited for Wadi Shab Adventure Park: What This Means for Investment Opportunities in Oman’s Tourism Sector
Muscat: The Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group) has issued a call for bids from multidisciplinary engineering consultancy firms to undertake the master planning, detailed design, and construction supervision of the Wadi Shab Adventure Development project.
The project seeks to transform Wadi Shab into a premier adventure destination, focusing on enhancing visitor experience while prioritizing safety, operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, structural integrity, and flood resilience.
Scope of work includes developing a comprehensive master plan, preparing detailed designs up to “Issued for Construction” (IFC) drawings, and producing full tender documentation. Construction supervision services will also be solicited as an optional addition to ensure adherence to approved designs and project standards.
The deadline for tender submissions is April 9.
OMRAN envisions the creation of an adventure park featuring a zip line, mountain climbing trails, suspension bridges, walking paths, swimming areas for both children and adults, as well as restaurants and cafes.
Wadi Shab, renowned for its biodiversity and unique geological formations, offers visitors pristine waters, caves, and waterfalls. In 2023, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism officially designated Wadi Shab as a tourist destination.
Located in the Wilayat of Sur in the South Sharqiyah Governorate, Wadi Shab is less than a two-hour drive from Muscat via the Muscat-Sur highway. It remains a favored spot for both local and international tourists thanks to its stunning natural scenery.
Visitors can take a boat ride across the water to reach the opposite side of the car park for a nominal fee, which includes a return trip to the pick-up point.

The development of Wadi Shab into a premier adventure tourism destination presents significant opportunities for Omani businesses in hospitality, retail, and tour operations, driving regional economic diversification. However, ensuring environmental sustainability and flood resilience will be critical to balancing growth with conservation. Smart investors and entrepreneurs should focus on innovative, eco-friendly ventures and service excellence to capitalize on increasing tourist inflows while safeguarding Oman’s natural heritage.
