Tropical Storm Chantal Forms Off the Southeastern U.S. Coast: Implications for Business and Trade in Oman

Miami, July 5 — The National Hurricane Center has reported that Tropical Storm Chantal has formed off the southeastern coast of the United States, marking the third named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Its effects are expected to be felt in South Carolina and North Carolina.

The storm’s center is currently moving north at a speed of 2 miles per hour (4 kilometers per hour) and is situated about 150 miles (240 kilometers) southeast of Charleston, South Carolina. It has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (65 kilometers per hour).

American authorities have issued tropical storm warnings for areas stretching from South Santee River to Cape Fear in Carolina, with expectations that the storm will reach the coast by Sunday morning.

Chantal is anticipated to bring heavy rainfall ranging from 2 to 4 inches, with some areas possibly receiving up to 6 inches, increasing the risk of localized flooding.

Authorities have also warned of dangerous rip currents and wave heights of 1 to 3 feet along coastal regions.
