Heima, July 13 – The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology has intensified efforts to enhance the readiness of the road network connecting the Central Governorate to Dhofar to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety for road users during the khareef season.
Bakhit bin Salem Al-Awaid, the Director of the Roads Division in the Central Governorate, stated that the division has implemented a comprehensive field plan in collaboration with maintenance companies since the beginning of June to improve road efficiency ahead of the increased vehicle traffic during the khareef season.
In a statement to Omani News Agency, he mentioned that the plan includes deploying 11 specialized vehicles to remove dust and sand from various road networks in the governorate, alongside equipping technical teams and emergency equipment to operate around the clock to handle any unforeseen breakdowns.
The Sultan Said bin Taimur Road (265 km long), the coastal road (Sinaa – Mahout – Al-Jazar), and the Ashkharah – Mahout – Al-Jazar road, totaling 431 km, are prioritized for improvements and rehabilitation work.
Additionally, the division has completed maintenance and rehabilitation of the Saqrah Pass in the Wilaya of Al-Jazar, measuring 310 meters, ensuring all necessary traffic safety measures are in place before the season begins.
Al-Awaid confirmed that the division has upgraded the Al-Jubah – Haj road in the Wilaya of Mahout, which is 14.8 km long, by widening the road shoulders and repairing damaged areas, as part of efforts to enhance infrastructure and reduce traffic accidents.
He further emphasized that the division continues to enhance traffic safety and allocate all resources to ensure the transportation network in the governorate is free from damage, mentioning that field teams are continuously monitoring traffic conditions to ensure smooth movement and provide timely assistance.
