Salim Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals; Mohsen Hamad Al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary of the Ministry; as well as officials and members of the media.<\/p>\n<p>Developed by the Oman Net Zero Center under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the updated strategy is founded on a comprehensive analysis of emissions pathways using the latest data. It sets forth priorities for emissions reductions that align with the national economy, identifies necessary enablers and financing mechanisms, and explores pathways toward a low-carbon economy.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Al Aufi emphasized that adopting the updated Net Zero Strategy represents a strategic move toward building a resilient, sustainable, and low-carbon economy. This aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and enhances the Sultanate\u2019s global standing.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted that the strategy\u2019s net zero pathway delivers substantial economic and environmental benefits by advancing green industries, improving Oman\u2019s competitiveness in the sector, integrating advanced emissions-reduction technologies, and contributing to GDP growth.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Al Aufi noted that the newly established regulatory framework for carbon markets is a crucial enabler for strategy execution. This framework introduces a comprehensive national regulatory structure with clear guidelines and streamlined procedures designed to encourage participation from the private sector, including small and medium-sized enterprises. This move is expected to generate wider employment opportunities and diversify income sources within the national economy.<\/p>\n<p>The carbon market framework aims to convert the target of a 33% reduction in emissions by 2035 into investable, verifiable, and tradable carbon credits. It also seeks to attract international and private sector investments into mitigation and adaptation projects across seven key national sectors, while cementing Oman\u2019s reputation as a trusted supplier of high-integrity carbon credits governed by robust standards in global markets.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the oil and gas sector, Eng. Al Aufi reported a balanced performance in 2025, combining sustainable production, expanded exploration efforts, and improved operational efficiency. In 2026, a bid round covering five concession areas was announced to attract investment, alongside ongoing efforts to sustain production levels and reservoir stability.<\/p>\n<p>He reaffirmed that this vital sector remains a cornerstone of Oman\u2019s economy, with average daily crude oil and condensate production at approximately one million barrels and total annual output reaching 365.8 million barrels.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, a total of 64 exploration and appraisal wells were drilled\u201447 oil wells and 17 gas wells\u2014reflecting continued investments in reserve enhancement. Reserves currently stand at around 4.7 billion barrels of oil and condensates, and 22.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.<\/p>\n<p>The gas sector also demonstrated positive performance, with average daily production exceeding 151 million cubic meters and liquefied natural gas exports surpassing 11 million metric tonnes, reinforcing Oman\u2019s status as a reliable energy supplier.<\/p>\n<p>The sector achieved an Omanization rate of nearly 91.6%, alongside initiatives to localize industries and services related to the energy sector and support small and medium-sized enterprises, thereby maximizing added value to the national economy.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Al Aufi marked the historic centennial anniversary of the first oil and gas exploration agreement in 2025, a milestone that laid the foundation for this vital sector\u2019s development journey and its significant role in building Oman\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Saleh Ali Al Anboori, Director General of Exploration and Production of Oil &#038; Gas, presented key achievements and milestones. He outlined the 2026 plan focusing on maintaining production and reserve stability, enhancing operational safety, and promoting new concession blocks through the latest bid round to attract further investments and support sectoral growth.<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted Omanization progress, with national workforce representation reaching about 91.6% in operating companies and the provision of nearly 20,000 direct jobs plus thousands of indirect employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>On safety and sustainability, the sector achieved an exemplary record with over 503 million work hours without injuries and zero fatalities, demonstrating a strong commitment to the highest occupational health and safety standards.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to maximize In-Country Value (ICV) continued, with over RO 11 billion spent on local content in the past decade, accompanied by the \u201cMajd\u201d program to support SMEs and localize energy-related industries.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past ten years, approximately 1,521 social responsibility projects were implemented, totaling RO 85.6 million in spending. These initiatives covered education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and community infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, 17 operating companies manage 34 concession areas, including 12 companies conducting commercial production in 18 areas.
