the National Centre for Statistics and Information.<\/p>\n<p>The average inflation rate for the January-April 2026 period increased by <strong>2.6 percent<\/strong>, indicating ongoing upward pressure on consumer prices across various key sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The category of miscellaneous personal goods and services saw the highest increase at <strong>9.2 percent<\/strong>, followed by food and beverages at <strong>6.2 percent<\/strong>, and transportation at <strong>6 percent<\/strong>. Prices for restaurants and hotels increased by <strong>4.5 percent<\/strong>, while furniture, household equipment, and maintenance services rose by <strong>3 percent<\/strong>. Education costs went up by <strong>2.2 percent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Health-related expenses increased by <strong>1.8 percent<\/strong>, and culture and entertainment saw a slight rise of <strong>0.2 percent<\/strong>. In contrast, prices for housing, water, electricity, gas, other fuels, clothing and footwear, communications, and tobacco remained unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>Within the food and beverages category, vegetables experienced the steepest increase at <strong>25 percent<\/strong>, followed by fruits at <strong>11.6 percent<\/strong> and fish and seafood at <strong>6.1 percent<\/strong>. Meat prices rose by <strong>3.7 percent<\/strong>, beverages by <strong>3.4 percent<\/strong>, and sugar, jam, honey, and sweets by <strong>3 percent<\/strong>. Milk, cheese, and eggs increased by <strong>2.5 percent<\/strong>, while bread, cereals, and other food products each saw a rise of <strong>1.6 percent<\/strong>. Oils and fats experienced a modest increase of <strong>0.9 percent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Regionally, Al Dhahirah Governorate reported the highest inflation rate at <strong>4.4 percent<\/strong>. This was followed by Al Dakhiliyah and Muscat Governorates with increases of <strong>3.7 percent<\/strong>, and Al Buraimi at <strong>3.5 percent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Al Wusta saw a <strong>3 percent<\/strong> rise, Musandam <strong>2.9 percent<\/strong>, and Al Batinah South <strong>2.6 percent<\/strong>. Both Al Sharqiyah North and South Governorates recorded inflation at <strong>2.5 percent<\/strong>, while Al Batinah North and Dhofar Governorates posted the lowest increases at <strong>1.9
