national objective of achieving net zero emissions by <strong>2050<\/strong>. The strategy encompasses policy development, investment incentives, innovative technologies, and stricter regulations to facilitate a gradual transition to a lower-carbon energy system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Saleh bin Ali al Anbouri<\/strong>, the Director-General of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production at the Ministry, indicated that the ministry is encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies to enhance oil recovery and minimize the environmental impact of production activities. <\/p>\n<p>He highlighted a pilot project by <strong>Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)<\/strong> in the Zulaimah field, which employs carbon dioxide for enhancing oil recovery as an example of harmonizing economic growth with environmental sustainability. This initiative not only aids in extracting oil from tightly-held reservoirs but also advances carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry is also backing renewable energy initiatives associated with oil and gas operations. The <strong>Wind 1<\/strong> and <strong>Wind 2<\/strong> projects, collectively boasting a capacity of up to <strong>200 megawatts<\/strong>, are approximately <strong>42%<\/strong> complete and are anticipated to commence operations in <strong>Block 6<\/strong> in the last quarter of this year. Once operational, these projects are projected to abate carbon dioxide emissions by <strong>740,000 tonnes<\/strong> annually.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a <strong>100-megawatt solar photovoltaic project<\/strong> located in the northern region of Block 6 has reached <strong>51%<\/strong> completion, with operations expected to begin in the second quarter of <strong>2026<\/strong>, resulting in a reduction of emissions by over <strong>220,000 tonnes<\/strong> each year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Al Anbouri<\/strong> emphasized the ministry&#8217;s commitment to sustainable water management in production activities. The <strong>Nimr Wetland project<\/strong>, which utilizes reed beds for natural water treatment, has a treatment capacity of <strong>175,000 cubic meters<\/strong> per day and contributes to emissions reduction of <strong>113,000 tonnes<\/strong> annually. This project has also become a natural habitat for over <strong>140 species<\/strong> of birds and animals.<\/p>\n<p>Another significant project, the <strong>Rima Water Treatment Plant<\/strong>, which commenced operations in <strong>2022<\/strong>, employs biological processes to treat around <strong>40,000 cubic meters<\/strong> of water daily, saving up to <strong>10 megawatts<\/strong> of energy and reducing emissions by <strong>48,000 tonnes<\/strong> each year.<\/p>\n<p>Additional key initiatives include the <strong>100-megawatt Amin Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant<\/strong>, which has prevented over <strong>1.1 million tonnes<\/strong> of emissions since its launch in <strong>2020<\/strong>, and the <strong>Miraah Solar Steam Generation Project<\/strong>, which supports enhanced oil recovery through clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry reported that PDO has elevated its target to generate <strong>30%<\/strong> of its operational energy from renewable sources by <strong>2026<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>As part of Oman\u2019s net-zero strategy, the country aims to reduce total emissions by <strong>33%<\/strong> by <strong>2035<\/strong>, relative to a <strong>2024<\/strong> baseline. The oil and gas sector is poised to target a reduction of up to <strong>48%<\/strong> by <strong>2035<\/strong>, with <strong>10%<\/strong> set as a committed target and <strong>38%<\/strong> contingent on financing, technology, and international support.<\/p>\n<p>Oman is also striving to eliminate routine gas flaring by capturing and reusing associated gas instead of incinerating it. Operating companies have achieved a <strong>50%<\/strong> reduction in routine flaring at numerous sites through the implementation of gas recovery infrastructure and reuse in power generation and production.<\/p>\n<p>The establishment of Oman\u2019s carbon market regulatory framework is anticipated to bolster emissions reduction projects by facilitating the trading and purchasing of carbon credits. This initiative is expected to enhance transparency, attract investment, and allow companies to engage with global carbon markets.<\/p>\n<p>These combined efforts illustrate Oman\u2019s commitment to
