Among women, the casualties included 17 drivers, 50 passengers, and 28 pedestrians. In total, 293 expatriates lost their lives in 2024\u2014215 males and 78 females\u2014compared to 276 Omani males and 17 females.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Year-to-Year Comparisons<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In comparison to previous years, the statistics show a slight decline: 586 deaths and 1,936 injuries from 1,854 accidents in 2024, down from 595 deaths and 2,129 injuries from 2,040 accidents in 2023, and 532 deaths from 2,080 injuries in 2022. Major factors contributing to fatalities include speed, negligence, risky behavior, fatigue, overtaking, intoxication, inadequate safe distances, and vehicle defects.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Behavioral Issues<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Notably, poor behavior accounted for 99 fatalities in 2024, up from 80 in 2023 and 63 in 2022. In response, the ROP has initiated the expansion of smart systems to monitor traffic violations, particularly focusing on mobile phone usage while driving.
