However, the volume of dry bulk cargo saw a decline, dropping to <strong>243,359 tonnes<\/strong> from <strong>286,278 tonnes<\/strong> the previous year. Conversely, the handling of foodstuffs, including vegetables, fruits, and other consumer goods, rose to <strong>54,401 tonnes<\/strong>, up from <strong>47,291 tonnes<\/strong> in the same timeframe of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Engineer Samir bin Ghulam Al Balushi, Director of Suwaiq Port, attributed the overall increase in traffic to operational improvements at the facility. He noted enhancements in unloading and loading efficiencies, upgraded handling procedures, and the introduction of modern cargo equipment, such as high-capacity cranes, which have contributed to faster throughput.<\/p>\n<p>Al Balushi emphasized that key commodities handled at the port include food, vegetables, fruits, livestock, construction materials, machinery, and general cargo.<\/p>\n<p>Current development works aim to further enhance operational efficiency. These include the reorganization of internal yards, security and inspection system upgrades, and improvements to electronic operating platforms. Al Balushi confirmed that preliminary studies for the port&#8217;s expansion project are nearing completion, with administrative processes currently being finalized to initiate implementation. This project is designed to align with Suwaiq Port&#8217;s growth trajectory and meet future demand.<\/p>\n<p>Suwaiq Port is equipped to handle small and medium-sized vessels with capacities of up to <strong>10,000 tonnes<\/strong>.
