Auchincloss on Thursday. Carol Howle, a company executive, will serve as interim CEO until O&#8217;Neill transitions from her current role as CEO of Australian energy firm Woodside Energy.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Neill&#8217;s appointment marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to lead a major oil company, a sector that includes industry leaders such as Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, and TotalEnergies. An American national with 23 years of experience at ExxonMobil, O&#8217;Neill is also BP&#8217;s first external CEO in the company&#8217;s 116-year history. BP Chairman Albert Manifold praised O&#8217;Neill\u2019s &#8220;proven track record of driving transformation, growth, and disciplined capital allocation,&#8221; describing her as the ideal leader to advance BP\u2019s vision of becoming &#8220;a simpler, leaner, and more profitable company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Manifold emphasized the need for increased rigor and diligence to implement transformative changes that maximize shareholder value. Since taking on his chairmanship role in October, he noted that while progress has been made, further efforts are required.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Neill expressed confidence in BP&#8217;s potential to
