Calce, chairman and founder of America First, emphasized, &#8220;For the first time in half a century, the United States will build a new refinery designed specifically for American shale oil.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Many existing Gulf Coast refineries are ill-equipped to process the light, sweet crude extracted from shale fields via fracking, as they have historically been configured to handle heavier, sour crude oil, which is denser and contains higher sulfur content.<\/p>\n<p>America First Refining also revealed that a global supermajor has made a nine-figure investment at a ten-figure valuation, identifying Reliance Industries as the investor. Reliance has signed a binding 20-year offtake agreement to purchase products from the refinery, a move aimed at reducing India\u2019s trade surplus with the US, which Trump has frequently criticized.<\/p>\n<p>However, industry experts have expressed skepticism about the necessity of a new refinery on the Gulf Coast, which already hosts eight of the nation\u2019s ten largest refineries.
