Rising Traffic Violations Among 18-35 Age Group: Implications for Insurance and Road Safety Initiatives in Oman
مسقط: Statistics reveal that individuals aged 18 to 35 are the most involved in hazardous driving behaviors, such as speeding, tailgating, and improper lane changes. This observation was made by Brigadier Eng Ali bin Sulayem al Falahi, the Director-General of Traffic at the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
Brigadier Al Falahi highlighted that certain traffic violations, including dangerous overtaking and failing to maintain a safe distance, significantly jeopardize public safety and contribute to fatal accidents on the roads. To address these issues, the Directorate-General of Traffic has ramped up its enforcement efforts through increased patrols and stringent road monitoring.
Al Falahi noted that data indicates young drivers, particularly within the 18 to 35 age bracket, represent the highest percentage of traffic violations and accidents. This demographic tends to engage in risky behaviors such as reckless driving and excessive speeding.
Emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic laws, Al Falahi stated that compliance is critical for ensuring smooth interactions between vehicles and pedestrians. Such measures can effectively reduce traffic accidents and minimize user errors on the road. He underscored that traffic safety is a collective responsibility, necessitating collaboration across all segments of society. Adhering to traffic regulations should also be paired with ethical driving practices, including respecting others’ rights, yielding when necessary, and exercising patience.
Through its Traffic Safety Institutes Department, the Directorate-General of Traffic is committed to a proactive public awareness strategy across all governorates.
