Understanding Oman’s Visa Types: Key Implications for Investors and Entrepreneurs in the Region

مسقط: Oman will launch its Golden Visa program on August 31, aimed at attracting global investors, entrepreneurs, and professionals seeking long-term residency in the Sultanate.

The Golden Visa scheme is designed to enhance Oman’s role as a competitive regional hub for business and investment. Officials have noted that this initiative will foster an appealing environment for foreign investors, bolstering the national economy and promoting knowledge transfer. Mirroring similar programs in other Gulf states, Oman’s approach will offer flexibility to investors interested in securing residency and exploring business opportunities in key growth sectors.

Currently, Oman’s visa system is categorized into four primary types: resident-sponsored, resident-unsponsored, visit-sponsored, and visit-unsponsored. The employment visa remains one of the most commonly used, allowing foreign nationals to reside and work in Oman with a local sponsor.

Additionally, family joining visas permit spouses and children of residents to live in Oman, while student visas cater to foreign students enrolled in higher education institutions. In recent years, the government has also introduced property owner and investor visas, expanding residency options beyond the traditional sponsorship model.

Short-term visit visas continue to accommodate tourists, business travelers, and family visitors, with options that include single-entry and multiple-entry permits. Citizens from certain countries benefit from visa-free entry for up to 14 days, while GCC residents and holders of valid permits from the US, UK, Schengen area, Canada, or Australia are eligible for facilitated access.

These developments reflect Oman’s commitment to balancing openness with structured residency policies. With the introduction of the Golden Visa program, Oman is positioning itself to align with global investment trends. The scheme aims to provide stability and long-term incentives, further establishing the Sultanate as an appealing destination for investors, innovators, and families looking to deepen their ties in the region.
