Start Paperwork Two Months Early for Licenses and Contracts: Key MoL Guidelines to Ensure Business Continuity in Oman

The Ministry of Labor (MOL) has urged companies and workers to initiate the process of obtaining the Professional Classification Certificate and the Professional Practice License at least one to two months before the expiration of expatriate workers’ residence cards or Omani workers’ employment contracts. This aligns with prior sector-specific announcements aimed at ensuring timely verification and issuance, thereby preventing penalties from relevant authorities.

Early compliance is crucial to avoid administrative delays and financial penalties, ensure seamless contract renewals, maintain business continuity, and enhance readiness in accordance with professional accreditation standards.

The requirement for a Professional Practice License applies to the logistics, energy, and minerals sectors, while the Professional Classification Certificate is mandatory for professionals in engineering, accounting, finance, and legal sectors.

These regulations, designed to streamline the labor market and regulate various professional activities, came into effect on September 1. The Ministry has also issued a stern warning against the submission of forged vocational classification and licensing certificates, noting that several cases of document falsification have been identified.

The Ministry will enforce strict supervision over authorized training institutes and assessment centers responsible for evaluating and licensing professions requiring vocational classification. Licenses or certifications not officially approved by the Ministry will be deemed invalid.

Individuals or companies found submitting forged documents will face legal consequences under existing laws.
