MUSCAT: The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has officially launched a new integrated electronic system for licensing and renewing accounting and auditing firms. This digital platform enables applicants to submit and track their applications entirely online, enhancing transparency, reducing processing times, and improving the efficiency of regulatory services. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the FSA’s ongoing digital transformation strategy.
The launch was held during a seminar themed “Accounting and Auditing: Reality and Development Opportunities,” hosted at Al Irfan Hall within the FSA headquarters. The event convened representatives from accounting and auditing firms alongside industry experts to discuss regulatory updates, exchange experiences, and explore avenues for professional advancement.
Ahmed bin Ali al Maamari, Executive Vice President of the FSA, underscored the importance of this development for the profession. He noted that the accounting and auditing sector in Oman has recently undergone a pivotal institutional change following Royal Decree 20/2024, which transferred regulatory authority to the FSA. “The FSA has acted swiftly and strategically, guided by a clear vision to modernize the legislative and regulatory framework, enhance oversight, and promote sound professional practices,” Al Maamari stated.
He further explained that the FSA has established a specialized team to review and develop the regulatory framework for the profession. This team is responsible for laying the legislative foundations that will govern accounting and auditing practices in the coming phase, aiming to boost efficiency, performance quality, and trust in financial reports issued by firms.
The seminar also included presentations on essential topics such as professional practice requirements, the auditor’s role, the FSA’s regulatory responsibilities, the work of the Professional Conduct Committee, and common violations. Attendees were invited to raise questions and offer suggestions to strengthen collaboration between the FSA and professional firms, as well as to enhance the supervisory environment in Oman.
