These initiatives underscore the governorate’s dedication to preserving cultural heritage and promoting Omani heritage as a vital contributor to the economy and tourism sector, in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.

Shaikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, revealed that the total investment in these heritage revival and local economic strengthening projects has exceeded RO 4.5 million. This significant allocation highlights the dual focus on safeguarding cultural and urban heritage while also boosting economic and tourism activities.

He emphasized that these heritage projects extend beyond mere restoration and maintenance. They form part of a comprehensive economic framework that invests in both people and places, enhancing local content and opening up wider opportunities for the community and entrepreneurs to capitalize on available prospects.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and other relevant bodies, efforts are ongoing to restore and maintain castles, forts, and historic neighbourhoods. The objective is to preserve their authentic value and sustainability, while simultaneously developing modern amenities and quality services to enhance the governorate’s tourism industry.

These projects have already made a tangible impact, attracting more than 302,000 visitors to historic castles and forts in the first half of 2025. This surge in tourism reflects increasing public awareness of heritage’s importance and its positive effect on the economy. It also underscores the necessity to continue promoting and rehabilitating heritage sites to maintain their competitiveness regionally and internationally.

Shaikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri stressed that these efforts align with the decentralized development approach emphasized by Oman Vision 2040. They bolster Al Dakhiliyah’s status as a cultural, tourism, and investment destination and support its ambition to serve as a model of sustainable development. Looking ahead, he highlighted promising opportunities for new projects that will further these goals, stressing the importance of continued collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve balanced development benefiting citizens, residents, and visitors alike.
