مسقط: According to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the consumer price index in the Sultanate of Oman experienced a ۲ درصد increase in February 2026 compared to the same month in 2025.
The average inflation rate for the first two months of the year rose by ۱.۷ درصد. This increase was primarily driven by a significant rise in miscellaneous goods and services, which surged by 13.4 percent. Restaurants and hotels followed with a ۵.۷ درصد increase, while furniture and household equipment prices rose by ۳ درصد. Additionally, food and non-alcoholic beverages saw an increase of ۲.۸ درصد, and education costs rose by ۲.۲ درصد.
Modest price increases were recorded in other categories, with health rising by ۱.۷ درصد, and transport and recreation experiencing a slight increase of ۰.۲ درصد. Housing, utilities, communications, and tobacco prices remained relatively stable.
Within the food category, vegetables saw the highest price increase at ۸.۳ درصد, followed by fruits at 5.4 percent and sugar products at ۳.۱ درصد. Fish, beverages, and dairy products also experienced moderate price hikes.
Regionally, Al Dhahirah reported the highest inflation rate at ۳ درصد, while Muscat recorded an inflation rate of ۲.۵ درصد. Other governorates exhibited moderate increases, indicating generally stable inflationary trends across the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
