SALALAH, AUG 12 – Artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved from a futuristic idea into a significant force transforming organizational operations, according to Abdulrahman Abdullah al Busaidi, Director of Smart Management at the Ministry of Labour. In a recent event, Al Busaidi highlighted how the transition from traditional management frameworks to AI-driven systems is facilitating quicker decision-making, enhanced adaptability, and a stronger competitive advantage.
In his presentation, Al Busaidi differentiated among three key management models: traditional, digital, and AI-enabled smart management. He explained that traditional models rely on manual, routine tasks coupled with slow decision-making processes. Conversely, digital management boosts efficiency through automation and electronic systems. Smart management, however, elevates this concept further by employing predictive analytics, automated recommendations, and real-time data flows, equipping leaders with immediate insights for decisive action.
A significant element of his address was the Ministry of Labour’s pioneering AI initiative, “Nadeem,” which is the first AI-driven virtual career advisor developed in Oman. Utilizing generative AI technologies, Nadeem is designed to assist job seekers throughout their employment journey, providing tailored advice, identifying challenges, and proposing solutions.
As part of the Ministry’s Smart Management Project, Nadeem has already proven to be an invaluable resource for understanding the needs, expectations, and concerns of both employees and job seekers. "It’s a treasure trove of information," Al Busaidi remarked, noting its impact in helping the Ministry enhance workplace performance and job matching.
He also emphasized the importance of considering all interrelated elements in the transition to smart management, especially at the national level. “Cybersecurity is fundamental because national data is sovereign, and protecting it is essential,” he stated. Furthermore, he underscored that effective risk management, including predetermined scenarios and balanced, well-planned responses, is crucial for ensuring resilience against emerging challenges.
Concluding his remarks, Al Busaidi stressed that adopting AI-powered management goes beyond merely investing in technology; it necessitates cultivating an organizational culture that embraces innovation. “This is no longer optional,” he asserted. “It’s a strategic necessity if we are to keep pace with the rapid changes shaping today’s global business landscape.”
