New 14km Coastal Road for Duqm Tourism Zone: Key Boost for Business and Investment Opportunities
DUQM: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has awarded a contract for the construction of a dual carriageway coastal road within the tourism zone of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). This new road will stretch 14 kilometers, connecting the tourism area to the fishing port and the fisheries and food industries complex.
The project features two lanes in each direction, incorporating four main roundabouts, advanced surface water drainage systems, and modern infrastructure. It will also include signage, concrete and steel barriers, and various service facilities. This development is part of a comprehensive plan to upgrade the transportation network within the zone’s master plan.
Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, emphasized that the coastal road will be a significant infrastructure enhancement for Duqm’s tourism zone. Built to the highest engineering standards for quality and traffic safety, the road is expected to boost the area’s appeal for tourism-related investments and economic activities. The route will traverse diverse scenic landscapes including seashores, natural hills, and future development sites, offering visitors a unique experience and invigorating the tourism sector.
The tourism zone covers approximately 30 square kilometers, with 15 square kilometers facing an 18-kilometer waterfront. The remaining area consists of nearby highlands, providing a varied environment for tourism ventures. Efforts are ongoing to finalize a detailed master plan, ensuring strategic distribution of tourism activities, setting architectural façade guidelines, and developing artificial projects to enhance the zone’s aesthetic appeal and attract both domestic and international tourists.
Strategically, the project links the tourism zone directly with the fishing port and Duqm Airport. This road will facilitate seamless access between hotels, resorts, and leisure facilities, supporting both existing and future tourism investments. It reinforces Duqm’s status as a rising tourism destination, contributes to the national economy, and aligns with Oman’s broader economic diversification goals.
