Oman’s Ambitious Digital Vision Unveiled at COMEX 2025: What It Means for Investors and Businesses in Oman

MUSCAT, SEPTEMBER 8 — His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, officially inaugurated the 34th edition of COMEX, Oman’s premier international technology exhibition, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat Governorate.

The four-day event, organised by Al Dar Al Arabiya for Data Analysis with support from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT), opened with the launch of several key initiatives aimed at reinforcing Oman’s status as a digital hub. These initiatives include the Digital Triangle Project, the development of a dedicated artificial intelligence zone, and the Green AI Alliance, which fosters collaboration between government bodies, private sector firms, and international academic institutions.

Agreements worth RO 42 million were signed during the ceremony, underscoring robust investor confidence in Oman’s growing digital economy. New offerings unveiled at COMEX 2025 include 30 services available on the Unified Digital Services Portal, a new mobile application, a smart assistant, and the National Open Data Portal.

Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary for Communications and Information Technology at MoTCIT, introduced Oman’s first artificial intelligence language model, “Maeen,” designed to enhance digital sovereignty and improve government service efficiency.

With participation from over 140 start-ups, 200 companies, and international delegations, COMEX 2025 highlights advancements in AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital transformation, reflecting Oman’s ambition to lead technology and innovation in the region.

In his remarks, Dr Al Shaithani emphasized the Sultanate’s ongoing commitment to accelerating digital transformation in accordance with the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The adoption of AI and advanced technologies is central to driving economic growth aligned with Oman Vision 2040.

The National Programme for the Digital Economy aims to build a diversified and sustainable economy powered by technology, knowledge, and innovation. It addresses multiple sectors, including digital transformation, AI, emerging technologies, digital infrastructure, e-commerce, cybersecurity, and the digital industry.

By 2040, the digital economy is expected to contribute approximately 10 percent of Oman’s GDP. Reflecting this vision, deals valued at RO 200 million were signed at COMEX 2024, with an additional RO 40 million worth of agreements concluded at LEAP 2025 in Saudi Arabia.

Oman is also experiencing strong investment growth in semiconductors, data centers, AI, and the space industry, alongside the expansion of small and medium enterprises. The country recently executed the Middle East’s first-ever space rocket launch experiment, the “Duqm-1” mission, featuring 80 percent Omani manpower—a landmark achievement in its technological advancement.

COMEX 2025 stands as a clear indication of Oman’s resolve to foster innovation, attract investment, and build a sustainable technology-driven economy. By aligning national initiatives with Oman Vision 2040, the Sultanate is positioning itself as a regional hub for artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and space innovation.
