Oman Launches “Govern It Smartly” Hackathon: What It Means for Innovation and Business Opportunities in Oman
صلاله: The State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority, in collaboration with Dhofar Municipality, has inaugurated the “Govern It Smartly” Hackathon, a 48-hour event aimed at empowering young innovators to develop digital solutions that enhance governance and transparency in investment management across Oman’s governorates.
Held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Recreation in Salalah, the competition seeks to leverage youth creativity in crafting practical projects that support sustainable development and promote economic decentralisation.
The event was officially opened under the patronage of Zahra Mohammed Redha Al Lawati, Deputy Chairman for Audit of Authorities, Investments and Companies, with H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, in attendance. In her opening remarks, Al Lawati emphasized the critical role of innovation and youth engagement in fostering transparency, efficiency, and accountability within investment governance.
This hackathon aligns with Royal Decree No. (36/2022) concerning the System of Governorates and the priorities outlined in Oman Vision 2040. Its primary objectives include encouraging digital governance innovation, ensuring robust oversight of decentralisation efforts, and transforming successful proposals into sustainable solutions for governance at the governorate level. The initiative also aims to uphold integrity and elevate Oman’s international reputation in governance and local administration.
Participants comprise multidisciplinary teams of young professionals with expertise in technology, management, and finance. They view the hackathon as a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge, enhancing skills in digital transformation and entrepreneurship, and contributing to the advancement of investment management across governorates.
A panel of expert mentors and evaluators oversees the event to maintain fairness and quality. Mentors assist teams in refining their projects into actionable solutions, while evaluators apply transparent criteria to assess outputs, ensuring the hackathon yields impactful and implementable results.
