(be\u2019ah) has made notable progress in advancing circular economy initiatives aimed at recovering value from waste and minimizing the disposal of commercially valuable materials in landfills.<\/p>\n<p>In its 2025 Annual Report, be\u2019ah outlined several key projects focused on energy recovery, organic waste utilization, alternative fuel development, and specialized recycling programs. These efforts are designed to promote sustainable resource management and environmental protection throughout the Sultanate of Oman.<\/p>\n<p>A major development highlighted is the national Waste-to-Energy (WtE) framework. Feasibility studies have been completed for large-scale WtE plants planned in Muscat, Al Batinah South, and Al Batinah North Governorates. In August 2025, Nama Power &#038; Water Procurement Company, the exclusive purchaser of power and water, issued a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for the Barka WtE project, initiating the bidder prequalification phase ahead of the Request for Proposal (RFP).<\/p>\n<p>Progress was also made on be\u2019ah\u2019s Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) initiative, with studies confirming its potential for energy recovery in industrial settings. Efforts are currently underway in Muscat and Dhofar, in collaboration with cement industry partners, to support landfill diversion and promote the use of alternative fuels.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, be\u2019ah expanded its collection program for used lead-acid batteries (ULAB), maintaining 21 contracts with waste producers and three with licensed recycling companies. Approximately 584 tonnes of batteries were sent to approved local recycling facilities, ensuring safe handling and resource recovery.<\/p>\n<p>The company also enhanced its management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) by collaborating with national firms to improve the collection and diversion of electronic waste into resource recovery channels. This initiative supports safe handling, storage, and recycling practices, mitigating environmental risks and fostering responsible e-waste management in Oman.<\/p>\n<p>Significant gains were reported in the recovery of green and bulky waste. Using nine shredding machines, waste was processed and delivered to specialized offtakers for composting, biochar production, and animal feed manufacturing. Nakheel Oman was the largest recipient, transporting over 4,740 tonnes of green waste to its Raysut facility for compost and animal feed production.<\/p>\n<p>Other partners included Omani greentech startup NTZ Solutions, which processed over 100 tonnes of green waste into biochar using advanced technology, and BioProduct, which converted agricultural residues into livestock feed at its Khazaen Economic City plant. Additionally, Al Batinah International transformed more than 600 tonnes of green, wood, and bulky waste into compost.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout 2025, be\u2019ah continued shredding end-of-life tyres (ELT) for recycling and industrial applications, with Oman Cement using the shredded material as an alternative fuel in cement production.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, approximately two million tonnes of Construction and Demolition (C&#038;D) waste were managed last year through an integrated network of reception, processing, and recovery facilities. Recovered materials were reused in the manufacture of concrete blocks, interlock units, and infrastructure projects, further advancing circular economy goals, according to
