Procurement Company (Nama PWP), a state-owned entity, is set to launch Oman\u2019s first large-scale Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable energy project, which will integrate solar, wind, and battery storage technologies. <\/p>\n<p>This groundbreaking RTC initiative marks a significant advancement in Oman\u2019s renewable energy strategy, transitioning from traditional standalone solar and wind projects to integrated, dispatchable clean energy systems capable of providing reliable electricity around the clock. As outlined in Nama PWP&#8217;s 2025 Annual Report, the company plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for this project in 2026, with the goal of awarding the contract within the same year. <\/p>\n<p>The proposed project aims to generate approximately <strong>\u06f1\u06f0\u06f0\u06f0 \u0645\u06af\u0627\u0648\u0627\u062a<\/strong> of capacity by combining solar photovoltaic (PV) generation, wind power, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), targeting an annual capacity factor exceeding <strong>\u06f7\u06f0 \u062f\u0631\u0635\u062f<\/strong>\u2014nearly matching the reliability typically associated with gas-fired generation.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative has the potential to position Oman as one of the early leaders in the global market for utility-scale integrated renewable power systems that deliver stable baseload-style clean electricity. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Nama PWP\u2019s report outlines an ambitious pipeline of renewable energy projects planned for launch, procurement, and implementation in 2026. Notably, the company intends to release an RFP for a <strong>280 MW Solar PV Independent Power Project<\/strong>, designed to support the decarbonization of the Marsa LNG project currently underway at SOHAR Port and Freezone.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, in 2026, Nama PWP is also expected to award several key renewable energy projects, including the Al Kamil I Solar IPP and three wind-based Independent Power Projects located at Al Duqm (Ras Madrakah), Mahout, and Sadah.<\/p>\n<p>In tandem, Nama PWP plans to issue RFPs for a new series of large-scale solar projects, including the Al Kamil II Solar IPP, Dhofar Solar IPP, Sinaw Solar IPP, and Adam Solar IPP. Together, these initiatives will contribute to a broader solar program with an estimated combined capacity of around <strong>2,500 MW<\/strong>, further enhancing Oman\u2019s growing utility-scale solar generation infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Selected projects are expected to feature Battery Energy Storage Systems, highlighting the increasing focus on grid flexibility, stability, and dispatchability as renewable energy integration rises.<\/p>\n<p>To further bolster the renewable energy development pipeline, Nama PWP intends to issue Requests for Qualification (RFQs) for the Duqm III Wind IPP, Al Jazir Wind IPP, and Shaleem Wind IPP.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Nama PWP will commence pre-development activities for future projects under its Solar 2030 program. These early-stage initiatives will include planning, site identification, resource assessment, and grid integration studies, all aimed at supporting long-term renewable capacity expansion across Oman.<\/p>\n<p>The Solar 2030 program is expected to be instrumental in establishing a long-term pipeline of bankable utility-scale renewable projects to meet domestic electricity demands and support emerging clean energy-intensive industries.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Nama PWP plans to initiate implementation activities based on its ongoing study of optimal energy mixes and storage options.
