Company (OMIFCO) is exploring various methods to develop low-carbon ammonia, a product that is gaining traction as industries and energy sectors worldwide intensify their decarbonisation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative was outlined in the company\u2019s prospectus for its initial public offering (IPO) and is part of a wider strategy focused on clean energy transition and decarbonisation, slated for phased implementation over the medium to long term.<\/p>\n<p>OMIFCO has initiated several studies aimed at decarbonisation and clean energy integration, aligning with national climate and emissions reduction targets. Among these efforts are the OMIFCO Roadmap on Decarbonisation &amp; Clean Energy, a pre-feasibility study on carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), and the Sur Hydrogen and Energy Transition Cluster pre-feasibility study. Currently, all initiatives are under evaluation as the company assesses their technical and commercial feasibility.<\/p>\n<p>The OMIFCO Roadmap serves as a key document for the company&#8217;s shift towards cleaner energy systems. It considers a wide range of available technologies, including renewable energy integration, green hydrogen and ammonia production routes, CCUS solutions, and other relevant low-carbon opportunities. This study was conducted by Norway-based AKSO, with the final report expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate effort, the CCUS pre-feasibility study examined technologies for capturing and utilising carbon dioxide emissions from OMIFCO&#8217;s ammonia plants. Conducted by Italy\u2019s Casale, this assessment recommended a suitable carbon capture technology based on operational and technical criteria. While exploration for carbon utilisation continues, a feasibility study for carbon sequestration has also been completed. However, practical implementation will necessitate the establishment of dedicated CO\u2082 transport infrastructure for transferring captured emissions to end-users or storage sites.<\/p>\n<p>The Sur Hydrogen and Energy Transition Cluster study extends beyond OMIFCO to encompass a broader industrial ecosystem in the Sur region, involving other energy participants, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations. A pre-feasibility assessment was completed in 2023, identifying potential synergies for hydrogen and low-carbon energy development at the cluster level. Stakeholders have since formalised their collaboration through a memorandum of understanding and are preparing for a joint tender process for a detailed feasibility study.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, OMIFCO is evaluating specific pathways for producing low-carbon ammonia. This includes integrating green hydrogen, either sourced externally or produced internally, and utilizing renewable energy, such as solar and wind, to support plant utilities and auxiliary systems, including compressors and pumps.<\/p>\n<p>The company is also assessing the potential use of renewable electricity from the national grid, contingent on the speed of infrastructure expansion and decarbonisation efforts from suppliers. Collectively, these strategies aim to reduce production&#8217;s carbon intensity while ensuring operational reliability and maintaining competitiveness in global fertiliser
