Do you need a visa to enter Oman?
Citizens of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE don't need a visa at all — GCC nationals move freely across the border.
For nearly everyone else, Oman's visa system runs almost entirely online through the Royal Oman Police's official eVisa portal (evisa.rop.gov.om). There's no embassy queue for the vast majority of travelers.
1. Visa-free entry (14 days) — over 100 nationalities
Since 2020, citizens of 100+ countries — including the UK, most of the EU, the US, Canada, Australia, China, Russia, and Turkey — can enter Oman without applying for anything in advance, for up to 14 days.
Requirements:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months
- Confirmed return or onward ticket
- Confirmed hotel reservation
- Valid travel health insurance
- Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
Two limits worth knowing, straight from Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- This 14-day stay cannot be extended and cannot be converted into any residence visa — it's a one-time entry only.
- A second list of nationalities gets the same 14-day exemption, but only if they also hold a valid visa or residency for the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, a Schengen country, Japan, or a GCC country.
If your trip runs longer than 14 days, or your nationality isn't on the exemption lists, you'll need one of the paid eVisas below.
2. Paid tourist eVisas
- 10-day tourist eVisa — stay up to 10 days, fee OMR 5, single entry, not extendable
- 30-day tourist eVisa — stay up to 30 days, fee OMR 20, single entry, one extension available before it expires
- 1-year multiple-entry eVisa — up to 30 days per visit, fee OMR 50, unlimited entries within the year
Fees above were current as of our last check (see verification note below), but Oman periodically revises them — always confirm the exact amount on evisa.rop.gov.om before paying, and be wary of third-party sites charging a markup over the official fee. Standard processing typically takes 3-5 working days.
3. Already living in a GCC country? The GCC Resident eVisa
If you hold a valid, unexpired residence permit from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE, you may qualify for an unsponsored eVisa even if your own passport isn't on Oman's exemption list — provided the occupation listed on your GCC residence card is on Oman's approved-professions list (generally professional and managerial roles).
4. Extensions & overstaying
- The paid 30-day eVisa can usually be extended once from inside Oman before it expires — apply through the ROP eVisa system itself, not at the airport.
- The free 14-day exemption cannot be extended under any circumstance.
- Overstaying costs OMR 10 per day, payable through ROP's Exit Penalty Payment Portal before you're cleared to leave. There's essentially no grace period, so track your exit date carefully.

- Return or onward flight ticket
- Hotel booking or host's contact details
- Travel insurance (for the visa-free route)
- Bank statement, if requested
Common mistakes that cause delays or rejections
- Applying with less than 6 months of passport validity
- Booking non-refundable flights or hotels before the eVisa is actually approved
- Assuming your nationality qualifies for visa-free entry without checking the current list
- Missing the extension window on a 30-day eVisa and overstaying by accident
