OIA Invests in Neuralink Healthcare Technology: What This Means for Investors and Entrepreneurs in Oman
MUSCAT: The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has announced a strategic investment in Neuralink, a US-based company specializing in neurotechnology and brain-computer interfaces. This move is part of OIA’s initiative to enhance its portfolio with advanced and future-oriented technologies.
This investment aligns with OIA’s broader objective to diversify its international holdings and intensify its footprint in innovative sectors with sustainable long-term growth, particularly focusing on healthcare and deep technology.
Neuralink develops implantable microchips that facilitate direct communication between the human brain and digital devices. This cutting-edge technology aims to assist patients afflicted with neurological disorders and mobility challenges, including those resulting from stroke and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The company’s neural implants convert brain signals into digital commands, enabling users to control devices or type purely through thought. Recent clinical trials demonstrated that Neuralink’s first human patient was able to operate a computer and type using brain activity alone, showcasing the technology’s potential to significantly enhance patient independence and quality of life.
Neuralink has secured regulatory approval in the United States to conduct human clinical trials using robotic surgical systems for implantation procedures. To date, the company has implanted its devices in 21 patients, with plans for substantial trial expansion throughout 2025.
Additionally, Neuralink is advancing its “Blind Vision” project, a neuro-optical system designed to restore vision by stimulating the brain’s visual cortex via signals captured from digital cameras.
OIA stated that its global investment portfolio spans over 52 countries, supporting Oman’s economic diversification and financial sustainability goals through strategic investments in emerging technologies.
The Authority also reported strong financial performance in 2025, solidifying its status among the world’s leading sovereign wealth funds, while maintaining a focus on sustainable, long-term returns through diversified international investments. — ONA
