New Private Vehicle Inspection Station in Oman: What It Means for Automotive Businesses and Investors
MUSCAT, JUNE 16 — Marking a significant milestone in private sector involvement in Oman’s vehicle transport and technical inspection services, Al Maha Technical Inspection Company has launched its first vehicle inspection centre under the “Tajdeed” brand. The new facility is located at the headquarters of the Oman Automobile Association and is part of a strategic partnership between Al Maha Petroleum Products Marketing Company and the Royal Oman Police.
The centre is designed to deliver advanced technical inspection services with a strong emphasis on quality, efficiency, and safety. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and improve service delivery to the community. Notably, it is the first privately accredited vehicle technical inspection station, representing a broader effort to incorporate private enterprises into this sector, increase service accessibility, and offer extended operating hours.
Yousef bin Salem al Hinai, Head of the Communication and Government Performance Unit at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, highlighted that this development marks a pioneering step by engaging the private sector in services traditionally operated by government bodies. He emphasized that this move will improve service efficiency and enhance the overall user experience.
Brigadier General Jamal bin Saeed al Ta’i, Director of Financial Affairs at the Royal Oman Police, clarified that this first automated inspection station is part of the Royal Oman Police’s initiative to encourage private sector investment in the field. He also noted that an agreement has been signed with Al Maha Technical Inspection Company to establish 12 additional centres, alongside similar contracts with other private sector entities.
Eng Hamad al Maghdari, Managing Director of Al Maha Technical Inspection Company, stated that the launch of the “Tajdeed” brand demonstrates the company’s dedication to advancing vehicle technical inspection services, with a focus on reliability, user convenience, and alignment with rapid sector developments.
The centre operates from early morning until 11:00 PM, offering greater flexibility to clients. Currently, five additional centres are under construction: two in Al Maabilah South and Al Amerat in Muscat Governorate, one in Nizwa in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, one in Salalah in Dhofar Governorate, and two in Sohar in North Al Batinah Governorate.
These forthcoming centres will provide services including vehicle registration issuance and inspection, adhering to standards set by the Royal Oman Police’s General Directorate of Traffic and international vehicle regulations applicable in Oman. They will also feature a vehicle collection service for customers seeking inspections.
Al Maghdari emphasized that these centres will be staffed entirely by Omani technicians and administrators, supporting national employment. There are plans to further expand the network with new centres in the governorates of Dhofar, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dakhiliyah, followed by additional locations across the Sultanate.
This expansion will not only increase the availability and efficiency of technical inspection services but also reduce client waiting times and offer more flexible operating hours. Moreover, the project is expected to boost private sector participation, prompt new investment opportunities, and support Oman’s economic diversification goals by creating jobs for national technical and administrative professionals.
