Muttrah Cable Car Project Kicks Off: What the First Equipment Delivery Means for Investors and Business Growth in Oman

Muscat: The first shipment for the Muttrah Cable Car project has arrived in Muscat and been delivered to the project site.

Sabeen Investments, the project developer, confirmed to the Observer that approximately 26 containers carrying towers, cable car engines, and related materials have been successfully received. Installation and tower erection are scheduled to commence in the coming months, initiating the next phase of a development set to significantly transform Muscat’s skyline and enhance its tourism sector.

The company also announced plans to soon invite both local and international firms to explore real estate opportunities associated with the project, further strengthening its impact on Muscat’s urban and tourism growth.

Khalid Al Nabhani, Co-founder and CEO of Sabeen Group, which owns the project, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure. “This is about offering an experience to tourists visiting the capital. Muttrah is a unique location featuring multiple viewpoints and historical sites. Our vision is to create a destination where visitors can enjoy the cable car journey while overlooking the historic city from above,” he stated.

The cable car system will include three stations: the first near the port and fish market, the second atop the mountain behind Al Riyam Park offering 360-degree coastal views, and the third at Hay Al Ward (Flower Park). Surrounding facilities will feature international brand outlets, restaurants, family attractions, and spaces for small and medium enterprises. The mountain-top station will also host an orchid centre and a children’s roller coaster.

Designed and manufactured by Bartholet Maschinenbau of Switzerland, a global leader in ropeway technology, the cable car cabins were styled by Porsche Studio. The service will operate 18 cabins, including two VIP cabins, with routes connecting the Port, Mountain, and Flower Park stations.

Al Nabhani highlighted that the facilities are designed for year-round use. “The cabins will ensure passengers enjoy the scenic views comfortably, even throughout Muscat’s long summer months,” he added.

This pioneering project promises to redefine Muscat’s tourism landscape and offer a unique experience for residents and visitors alike.
