Oman Invests RO 28.5 Million in Weekly Treasury Bills: Implications for Investors and Businesses

This issuance comprises three different maturities. The 28-day bills accounted for 5 مليون ريال عماني, with an average accepted price of RO 99.700 per RO 100. These bills feature an average discount rate of 3.91071% and an average yield of 3.92248%.

The bulk of the allocation was in 182-day bills، المجموع RO 21 million. These bills had an average accepted price of RO 97.926 and a minimum accepted price of RO 97.925 per RO 100. They carried an average discount rate of 4.15901% and an average yield of 4.24709%.

The CBO indicated that the interest rate on repo operations related to these bills is set at 5.00%, while the discount rate for treasury bills with the Central Bank is 5.50%.

Treasury bills are short-term, government-backed financial instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance. They are managed by the CBO and provide secure investment opportunities for licensed commercial banks. These bills offer quick liquidity through discounting with the CBO or via repo transactions, and they can also be traded among banks in the interbank market.

In addition to serving as an investment option for banks, treasury bills play a crucial role in determining short-term interest rate benchmarks in Oman’s financial market.
