Duqm Airport – Ras Markaz Dual Carriageway Project Launched: How This Infrastructure Boost Will Impact Your Business in Oman
MUSCAT: The Special Economic Zone at Duqm has officially opened the dual-carriageway linking the Duqm Airport roundabout with the crude oil storage tanks of the Oman Tank Terminal Company in Ras Markaz. This 51-kilometer roadway is a crucial new corridor that bolsters Duqm’s stature as a global hub for investment and logistics.
The dual-carriageway spans 42.9 kilometers, featuring two lanes in each direction, complemented by an 11.5-kilometer secondary road network that includes side roundabout entrances and airport access routes. This route connects the Ras Markaz oil tanks with Duqm Airport, running adjacent to the Green Industries Zone and several major projects currently under development. It also provides connectivity to the road leading to Dhahr village and the strategic route to Salalah. This network integration significantly enhances access to key facilities and supports various strategic initiatives in the southern sector of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
Eng. Abdullah bin Salem Al-Hakamani, Director of the Technical Affairs Department at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, described the RO 57.6 million project as a transformative advancement in Duqm’s infrastructure. He highlighted that the new road facilitates seamless movement between vital facilities, linking the airport with energy and industrial projects, thereby increasing the zone’s appeal to investors.
Al-Hakamani emphasized that the dual-carriageway will boost the Special Economic Zone at Duqm’s competitiveness both regionally and internationally. This is due to infrastructure designed to support rapid investment growth and robust logistics supply chains—key factors in attracting investments in energy, petrochemicals, and support services.
Eng. Saif bin Saeed Al-Amri, Project Engineer at Oman Company for the Development of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Tatweer), noted that the project included installing a modern lighting system with intelligent control and management, connected to advanced electrical grids. Additionally, culverts were constructed to ensure effective rainwater drainage, safeguarding infrastructure durability and traffic safety under varying weather conditions.
Part of the project’s funding was dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), promoting the involvement of national companies in major projects, and stimulating the local economy. The initiative has also created numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities for national talent. Consequently, this project serves not only as strategic infrastructure but also as a significant driver of economic and social development.
