Oman-US Executive Talks on Regional Supply Chains: What It Means for Investors and Businesses
Senior business leaders from the United States and the Gulf region recently engaged with Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Oman’s Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in a high-level discussion focusing on regional supply chains and logistics connectivity. The dialogue underscored Oman’s expanding significance in global trade networks.
The virtual event, titled “Navigating Regional Supply Chains: Oman’s Strategic Logistics Corridors,” was organised by AmCham Oman in partnership with the US Chamber of Commerce’s US-Oman Business Programme. It convened business executives, investors, and logistics experts to explore trade opportunities and emphasize the necessity of resilient supply chains.
Participants examined Oman’s pivotal location along major international shipping routes and discussed the vital role played by its ports, airports, free zones, and economic zones in facilitating commerce across the Gulf, Asia, and beyond.
Steve Lutes, Vice-President for Middle East Affairs at the US Chamber of Commerce, highlighted Oman’s strategic position at the intersection of the Indian Ocean, the Gulf, and Asian trade routes. He described Oman as a critical anchor for global supply chains, offering stability, advanced infrastructure, and access to key regional markets. Lutes also noted that the discussion reinforced Oman’s reputation as a trustworthy trade partner and identified potential for increased collaboration between American enterprises and Oman’s logistics sector.
Ali Daud, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of AmCham Oman, emphasized that Oman’s ongoing investments in infrastructure and economic diversification continue to attract international businesses seeking sustainable partnerships in the region.
Rebecca Olson, Chief Executive Officer of AmCham Oman, remarked that the event highlighted Oman’s growing role in global supply chain conversations and reaffirmed the robust trade relations between Oman and the United States.
This dialogue coincides with Oman’s rising international recognition for logistics excellence. The World Bank’s Logistics Performance Indicators 2.0 recently ranked Oman first globally in Export Supply Chain Initiation and ninth worldwide in Import Supply Chain Termination, reflecting the effectiveness of Oman’s trade and logistics framework.
According to the organisers, this event is part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties and to promote opportunities within Oman’s transport, logistics, and infrastructure sectors.
