Muscat: OQ Gas Networks SAOG (OQGN), the exclusive operator and transporter of Oman’s natural gas transmission network, proudly commemorated 25 years of leadership in energy transportation. The silver jubilee celebration was held under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and attended by esteemed dignitaries, including members of the State Council, representatives from the Oman Investment Authority, senior military and government officials, OQGN’s Board of Directors, as well as key executives, partners, and employees.
Since its inception in 2000, OQGN has been instrumental in enhancing energy availability, supporting economic development, and driving industrial growth through the efficient and reliable management of natural gas transportation. Under the theme “25 Years of Energizing the Nation,” the event celebrated OQGN’s remarkable achievements across the energy value chain and gas transmission infrastructure. It also highlighted the company’s forward-looking vision aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the Oman Net Zero 2050 strategy, emphasizing sustainable practices, digital transformation, and energy transition.
Ashraf Al Mamari, OQ Group CEO, stated, “OQGN is a vital asset within the OQ Group and the lifeline of Oman’s economy, playing a crucial role in transporting energy from production sites to consumption points. This facilitates sustainable economic growth across the industrial, logistics, oil & gas, and petrochemical sectors in the Sultanate.”
Eng. Ayad bin Ali Al Balushi, OQGN Chairman, described the company as “an authentic Omani success story, built over 25 years of continuous innovation and dedication. OQGN has consistently overcome challenges to manage the nation-wide gas transmission network with exceptional performance, achieving gas availability rates of 99.9% through efficient and reliable operations.”
Eng. Mansoor bin Ali Al Abdali, OQGN CEO, reflected on the company’s evolution: “Our journey began with a single pipeline and has expanded into a comprehensive network spanning 4,235 kilometers, including three compressor stations and 26 gas supply stations, connecting all governorates in Oman. As a publicly listed company on the Muscat Stock Exchange, OQGN upholds principles of competitiveness, transparency, and strong governance. This success is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and commitment of our employees and partners, supported by a culture of safety, health, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.”
The jubilee also honored the expertise and dedication of OQGN’s workforce, which now includes approximately 470 employees with an Omanization rate exceeding 94%.
Over its 25 years, OQGN has transported around 43 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The company’s total assets currently stand at 1.1 billion OMR, with dividends distributed in 2024 exceeding 46 million OMR. Demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability, OQGN has reduced emissions by 45% compared to 2021 and implemented 15 social contribution programs. These achievements underscore OQGN’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainable value creation, and strengthening Oman’s role as a regional energy hub and active participant in the global transition to a low-carbon future.
