Premium Rose Oil Project Agreement Signed in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar: Key Investment Opportunity for Oman’s Aroma Industry
MUSCAT, MAY 22 – A new high-value agriculture initiative has been launched to establish Oman as a leading producer of premium roses and rose-based products. This was announced during Oman Sustainability Week 2026 with the signing of a strategic partnership agreement to develop an integrated rose cultivation and rose oil production project in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, one of the Sultanate’s most popular tourist destinations.
The project is a collaboration between Omani engineering and technology firm Unicorn International LLC, local real estate developer Dream Group, and Preesman Naturals, a Netherlands-based company renowned for its expertise in advanced rose cultivation and rose oil extraction technologies.
Unicorn Sustainable Ventures, an affiliate of Unicorn International, stated on Thursday that the initiative aims to introduce exotic premium rose varieties, advanced cultivation techniques, and sustainable high-value agriculture to Oman.
Situated more than 2,000 meters above sea level, Al Jabal Al Akhdar is famous for its traditional Damask rose cultivation, which supports a long-standing seasonal rose water industry. This new partnership intends to cultivate high-grade rose strains adapted to the region’s unique high-altitude climate, utilising Preesman Naturals’ cutting-edge cultivation technology, precision irrigation, and sustainable farming methods to improve yield and quality.
The project seeks to expand on the region’s rose cultivation and rose water heritage by introducing commercially valuable rose varieties designed for the luxury fragrance, cosmetics, wellness, and specialty food markets. It will also focus on downstream production of rose oil and related extracts, which are highly prized in premium perfumes, skincare products, and aromatherapy. Rose oil is considered among the world’s most valuable essential oils due to its labor-intensive extraction process and strong global demand.
This initiative reflects Oman’s wider transition towards high-value, climate-smart agriculture, emphasising niche crops that offer premium export potential while optimising land and water resources.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is spearheading efforts to develop the domestic rose industry through an ongoing initiative aimed at enhancing the added value of rose production. This effort, now over 65% complete and expected to finish by the end of 2026, focuses on creating an integrated value chain encompassing production, processing, and marketing of roses and related products.
The project includes baseline rose cultivation studies, collaboration with SMEs specialising in rose-based products, expansion of native rose cultivation by an additional five acres, improved farming practices, mechanisation support, and rehabilitation of agricultural terraces. It also aims to empower 120 farmers and rural women in Al Jabal Al Akhdar through training and support in producing rosewater, cosmetics, and other value-added goods, providing equipment such as manual tillers and rose oil extraction machines to boost productivity, sustainability, and export potential.
These initiatives, alongside other government and private sector efforts to develop the rose industry in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, are expected to generate opportunities for local farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, and tourism-related businesses. The region is increasingly gaining recognition as a centre for eco-tourism and premium agricultural experiences.
