New Consumer Protection Office at Sohar Port: Key Benefits for Investors and Businesses in Oman
MUSCAT: Sulayem bin Ali al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), officially inaugurated the Consumer Protection Office at Sohar Port on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. This development marks a significant step in strengthening regulatory oversight at key entry points.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdulhakim bin Abdullah al Ghilani, Director General of the Consumer Protection Department in Al Batinah North Governorate, along with officials from various government and civil entities and representatives of the port management.
The newly established office aims to streamline regulatory procedures by facilitating direct coordination among relevant authorities through co-location. This approach will enable quicker responses to observations, prompt resolution of issues, and swift enforcement of legal actions against violations.
This initiative is focused on enhancing the efficiency of monitoring and initial inspection of goods arriving at Sohar Port to ensure safety and compliance with approved standards and specifications. It also aims to prevent the entry of non-compliant or counterfeit products, in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law and its Executive Regulations, thereby safeguarding consumer health and safety.
Furthermore, the office will ensure strict adherence to applicable laws and regulations, prevent the import of goods that violate regulatory decisions, develop a comprehensive and accurate database of goods, and improve collaboration with relevant entities.
This new facility represents a significant enhancement to the Authority’s efforts, through its Al Batinah North directorate, in overseeing goods and supply chains prior to market entry. The initiative supports the establishment of a safe and stable commercial environment, aligns with the governorate’s economic growth, and reinforces consumer confidence in the quality of goods and services.
The office also exemplifies the outcomes of strong cooperation between the Consumer Protection Authority and the Oman International Container Terminal (Hutchison Ports Sohar) at Sohar Port, under a public-private partnership framework. This collaboration contributes to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and advances the quality of services provided.
