Emergency Omani Passport Renewal at Muscat Airport: Who Qualifies
Since November 2025 the Royal Oman Police has handled urgent Omani passport renewals at Muscat International Airport. It is for real emergencies only, and expat passports are not covered.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) offers emergency renewal of Omani passports at Muscat International Airport, announced on 16 November 2025. It is a narrow service for urgent travel, not a general shortcut. It applies to Omani passports, so expats cannot use it for their own passports. We last checked on 6 November 2026 and found no change to the conditions, but we also found no fee, opening hours or counter location published.
The conditions
According to the Observer's report of the ROP announcement, you qualify only if all of these apply:
- The passport has less than six months of validity on the day you apply.
- You have a confirmed air ticket. Preliminary or unconfirmed bookings are not accepted.
- You have original documents that prove the emergency. The ROP gave medical reports, official memoranda and urgent travel documentation as examples.
- The case is urgent or exceptional. The service is not meant for routine renewals.
The ROP stressed that the airport service does not replace the normal procedure at police service centres.
Who it is for
The reports describe the service for Omani passports, and Times of Oman says it mainly helps Omanis whose passport validity becomes a problem shortly before departure. The Observer does not explicitly say "citizens only", but it speaks only of Omani passports. If you hold another nationality, go to your embassy or consulate for passport renewal.
What we could not confirm
- The fee and the time it takes. Neither report gives them.
- Where exactly the counter is in the terminal, and its opening hours.
- Whether the service is limited to certain flights. Nothing in the reports suggests so.
Avoiding the emergency
The six-month threshold in the rule shows how close to expiry a passport can get before it becomes a problem. Check your passport's expiry date, and your family's, well before you book, and renew at a police service centre in good time so you never need the airport service. For expats, check the validity of your own passport and residence card against your travel dates, and see residency services if you need help with your permit. For other changes affecting travel documents, see the blog.
