Treasury bills are short-term, government-backed financial instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance. They are managed by the CBO and provide secure investment opportunities for licensed commercial banks. These bills offer quick liquidity through discounting with the CBO or via repo transactions, and they can also be traded among banks in the interbank market.

In addition to serving as an investment option for banks, treasury bills play a crucial role in determining short-term interest rate benchmarks in Oman’s financial market. They also provide the government with a flexible and efficient mechanism for financing specific expenditures as required. — ONA
