Major Development Projects in Al Dhahirah Governorate: What They Mean for Business Opportunities in Oman
Al Dhahirah Governorate: A Rising Economic Hub in Oman
Al Dhahirah Governorate is emerging as one of the most promising growth centers in Oman, supported by strategic investments and initiatives identified by the Ministry of Economy (MoE). These efforts aim to enhance competitiveness, attract investments, and promote balanced regional development.
The governorate is characterized by what the ministry describes as a “triangle of economic harmony.” This framework focuses on engineering industries that support the oil and gas sector, logistics services, technology-based food production, and renewable energy projects, including solar power.
Each wilayat within the governorate has been assigned a specific role to ensure integration across sectors. For example, the Wilayat of Ibri is set to become a regional hub for economic, educational, and social activities related to the energy sector. The Wilayat of Yanqul will focus on food manufacturing and agricultural trade, while the Wilayat of Dhank will develop mining, industrial growth, and rural tourism services in the Hajar range.
Several significant initiatives are already underway in the governorate. These include the Ibri 3 Solar Power Station, Ibri Industrial City, and the Ibri Science and Innovation Centre, all of which are expected to enhance renewable energy production and diversify industrial activities.
Infrastructure projects such as the dualization of the Ibri–Dhank Road and the establishment of Ibri Market aim to boost trade and improve connectivity. Additional initiatives include the Yanqul Copper Warehouse Project, the creation of a new public park and hospital, and the construction of the Jufayfah Dam in Dhank, designed to enhance water resources and agricultural productivity.
Furthermore, the Integrated Economic Zone in Al Dhahirah, located near the Empty Quarter border crossing, is being developed as a key investment destination to expand logistics capabilities and create employment opportunities.
The ministry emphasized that these ongoing projects demonstrate the Sultanate’s commitment to sustainable regional growth by integrating industry, energy, agriculture, and innovation within a cohesive framework.
“These initiatives aim to bolster Al Dhahirah’s contribution to the national economy, create quality jobs for citizens, and enhance investment opportunities in vital sectors,” the ministry stated.
With its strategic location and expanding industrial base, Al Dhahirah is poised to play an increasingly significant role in shaping Oman’s diversified and sustainable economic future.
