Oman Welcomes Largest Wind Turbines at Al Duqm: What This Means for Renewable Energy Investment and Business Growth Opportunities
MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has reached a significant milestone in its clean-energy transition with the arrival of the country’s largest wind turbines at the Port of Duqm, heralding a new era in renewable power generation.
OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), a subsidiary of OQ, announced the arrival of the first batch of wind turbines for the Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 wind projects on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. These projects, still under construction, will collectively become the largest wind farms ever developed in Oman.
The shipment features record-breaking components for Oman’s renewable energy sector. Each turbine has a tip height of 200 meters and is fitted with blades measuring 90.2 meters—the longest ever delivered to the country—and the tallest wind turbine towers installed in Oman. Each Wind Turbine Generator has a capacity of 6.5 megawatts, capable of producing enough clean electricity annually to power approximately 2,400 Omani households.
These technical advancements set new standards for wind energy development in Oman and highlight the nation’s dedication to implementing top-tier technologies as it establishes itself as a regional clean energy hub.
During a visit to the Port of Duqm, attendees observed the complex logistics and handling operations required for managing the oversized turbine components. The event included briefings on turbine technology, installation phases, and operational features, followed by an on-site tour showcasing the scale and sophistication of the projects.
Upon becoming operational, the wind farms will supply clean electricity to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), helping reduce operating costs and significantly lowering carbon dioxide emissions, while providing long-term environmental and economic benefits.
This milestone also exemplifies robust international collaboration, combining OQAE’s renewable energy leadership with the technical expertise of TotalEnergies. The partnership promotes innovation, knowledge transfer, and accelerates sustainable development initiatives in Oman.
Eng. Ghalib al Maamari, Acting Chief Executive Officer of OQ Alternative Energy, described the turbine arrival as a defining moment in Oman’s renewable energy journey. “This is more than a logistical achievement. It is a proud national milestone that demonstrates Oman’s firm commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future,” he stated, noting that the projects will enhance energy resilience and create new opportunities in renewable energy and green hydrogen.
